Pancake Rocks

We left sunny Nelson and headed south to the rather drab and aptly named Greymouth. Along the way we made various stops to do some walks one of which at Cape Foulwind we encountered another seal colony - this time with little seal pups that were playing, they were so cute. Our next stop was at Punakaiki at the pancake rocks and blowholes. This was cool actually with very interesting rock formations (named pancake rocks because they look like stacked pancakes) the blow holes are simply little gaps in the rocks that when a strong wave comes in they spurt out sea water giving the a spectacular explosion of water.




Along the way we stopped at a tiny mining town called "Ross" where Al did some panning for gold, now he did manage to get a few flakes that he has safely tucked away in a little jar ! Although somehow I don't think we'll be retiring just yet ;-)
