Bay of Islands

We travelled up north to the Bay of Islands where we wanted to chill out away from the city of Auckland and do some activities that did't include drinking every night and decide what we are going to do next.

We got the magic bus up the west coast and we stopped along the way and saw some amazing "Kuari" trees which are millions of years old and so big in size(see the pics)


We also visited "Haruru falls" which is a waterfall with fresh and seawater combined, let me explain that one, the waterfall its self is fresh water but below the water is seawater therefore when the fresh hits the sea it cause a massive foam. ANYWAY we also went to "Waipera forest".


Our first evening there in Piahia it rained ALOT which was a bummer.
We also went on a cruise around the islands and were supposed to swim with the dolphins but the pods were too small to swim with them and also they had babies so could become protective but at least we got to see them, we went right out to the "hole in the rock"(see the pics) and by the time we got there, there was alot of people on the boat been sick, not good as i'm not very sea worthy myself.


We stopped off at the beach on the way back and had some lunch, i sat on the beach while Al and some of the others decended into the cold water for a spot of snorkeling, i was too clever for that one, the water over here is flipping cold, i think we were spoiled in Thailand :-}, Al also took a trip up to "Cape Reinga" which he will tell you about himself, i did not go as i have already been, i did it the last time i was here.


So after 4 days at the bay of island we have come back down to Auckland where we met back up with our drinking buddies Jay and Brian and the rest of the gang, yes we have a gang now. Last night i also met a girl who i haven seen in two years in the bar, we met in cardiff 2 yrs ago in a bar called O'neills when i was over there for the rugby Ireland Vs Wales, She was in the group i was with, we got pissed up together and that was it until last night when she walked up to me. Goes to show how small the world really is. We both have sim cards now so are completely contactable.
